Artist Statement

As a young Canadian artist and illustrator, my topics of exploration often relate to my own personal experiences and emotions. Topics I have explored include fear and anxiety, childhood memories, loss of relationships, and what it means to be a young person during our current political and social climate. My practice spans many mediums and material explorations, including painting, drawing, ceramics, collage and poetry. With a focus on illustration, my work typically reflects the world around me. My art merges my inner experience with the universal struggles of my generation.

The interdisciplinary approach to my practice allows me to explore a diverse set of ideas. As an illustrator, I find myself not tied to one medium. For me, illustration combines drawing, painting, collage and digital in order to express an idea. Each medium tells a unique story, and my ideas often require material experimentation. I often explore different styles as well to express a voice unique to each project I take on.

My creative process is reliant upon reflection and personal experience. I am constantly reflecting on my actions, memories and feelings to produce my artwork. As an emerging artist, I still feel as though my practice is wide open. I am constantly learning, growing, and earnestly wanting to take in as much as I possibly can. My art is absolutely reflective of a contemporary  “coming-of-age” experience; one defined by figuring out my place in the world and a longing for connection to others.
